I love this couple. Balto has always been one of my favorites. I have always loved Humphrey since alpha and omega first came out. Even more so with my new found love for Humphrey's voice actor; Justin Long.
This is a fab drawing! Love the traditional look to it, the poses, shading and how the colourful background is a little box is very effective. Only thing is not quite ready to accept these kind of cartoon characters having 'bits', yet.
Thanks so much! Lol, I'm a traditional media artist for the most part, so I guess my digital just kind of looks like that by habit. Box backgrounds are my favorite to work with because it's such a challenge to get the background and the characters to look like they work together with that framed space.
As for the bits, yeah, I was kinda weird about including the sheath at first, but I figured if Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron could do it, so could I. Really, I just got tired of people thinking my main OC was male just because she wasn't super femme, so I decided, fine, Imma throw sheaths on the males, and now tell me my sheathless woof looks like a guy. So, I guess over the years, it's just become easy for me. Totally respect your view though.
Ummmm, not that I really want to go to far into depicting as tastefully as possible anatomically correct male dogs in a cartoony fashion, but have you ever had a fluffy yet lanky and wolf breed of dog? I do, and without too much research into that part of the anatomy of said dog, yeah, that's about how it looks. Any other way you'd like to express your anger and resentment about how I DARE to pair Balto with another male dog?
"Anger and resentment". lol Are you really that much of a freaking idiot that you cannot recognize the difference between a simple observation versus either "anger" or "resentment", neither of which is evident in what I typed?
God, I continue to be amazed at the boneheaded stupidity and hypersensitivity among immature little fangirls on deviantArt. ROFL
I highly doubt you'd have bothered to comment on the size of the dog's sheath had it been Jenna in Humphrey's place. You say that you don't denounce homosexuality as long as it is applied to appropriate characters. Such stringent and simple rules you apply to a complex system which is sexuality amongst mammals. I think you'd be better off attacking the fact that Humphrey would have to get in a DeLorean with Marty in order to have his little tryst with Balto in the first place. Then you wouldn't have had to "lower" yourself by talking about the size of dog bulge and a homosexual relationship between two fictional characters.
How lucky I am to have you here on my therapist's day off to play Hannibal Lecter with me! Rest assured, all your EDUCATED and WELL RESEARCHED and KNOWLEDGEABLE opinions about me and my mental health and personality traits are being well considered on this end. In fact, I'm taking notes. Oh Blessed Virgin Mother, I think I might be reformed! I-Is that what you wanted to hear? Or maybe it's just one of my multiple personalities who has a "must please dickish would be authority type figures" complex saying that. After all, dissociative personality disorder does fall under the realm of emotional and mood disorders, so that would make sense, right? Oh, that's the bane of being this fucked up, you just never know when you're REALLY on the road to recovery...
I guess we'll know when and if I upload more Balto and Humphrey artwork. Would you be watching for it? Would you be that utterly concerned for my well-being? If so, how kind.
I am sorry, but I don't see this. And I personally think that there ought to be a limit to how far someone would go in fan shipping. Turning two definitely heterosexual characters, from two different childrens' animated movies, into homosexual ones is, I think, in bad taste. This is not a diatribe against homosexuality, but one of respecting the characters as they are, and using some common sense in fan shipping.
I realize also that fans and artists have different tastes and sexual orientations. There is no condemnation in that either by me. And the art style itself is very, very nice. But a strong criticism of this sort of thing? Better believe it. And I don't apologize for that (though I expect the litany of callous and inane abuse because I was willing to post this...even THOUGH I have been respectful to the artist).
I don't see where you think you've been respectful. If you had just come by and said, "eh, not my thing, not into gay fan 'shipping', but whatevs, that would have been respectfully sharing your opinion. But you are going on a full on, albeit short, diatribe about policing people's fanwork which is bullcrap. People can damn well do as they please and if you don't like it, there should be a little back button up there at the type of your browser that will get you away from artwork you don't like. I'm not demonizing Jenna or the original plots of the movies, and Jesus, this is just all in fun, so I don't see where you think this comment was even warranted.
Well then I suppose people should refrain from drawing any fanart from either movie that isn't a direct copy of screenshot, right? See, I'm all about fairness, and I believe that if you are going to say that one interpretation of a "what if" extended universe is wrong, we should just throw it out altogether. I'm not claiming either character as my own creation, so I don't see as where I've disrespected Universal Studios or Lions Gate and their claims to their own creations. You are the one who is acting immaturely. I've found plenty of fan pairings from a multitude of fandoms that I don't particularly find appealing, and I haven't bitched out a single creator of said fan work. I've simply hit the back button on my browser and gone about my day in relative bliss. Frankly, my own opinion about fanwork is not worth debating SINCE IT DOESN'T MATTER. People can create as they please, and if it makes them happy to share their stories with people who like them, who am I to strike them down? Apparently you have a bit of megalomania and believe that you should be able to shove your precious little opinion in everyone's face because it's oh so wise and oh so relevant. Well, it's not. I don't care about your opinion, and if you continue to share it with me after this, I'll just block you.
Yes, honey, it was a diatribe. A short one without flourish, but it was a diatribe. Obviously since I DARED to draw something that you don't agree with, I deserve to be denounced instead of simply ignored. It was a diatribe, and you wasted it on me. Good job.
Now I suggest you go about your day and find some Balto fanart you agree with. Looking at my stuff is obviously just going to get you all upset.
hmmmmm, maybe I was wrong when I described you as having some sort of megalomania complex. Maybe you really think you're doing the world some good with your opinions...maybe you're more like a fanfiction/fanart Moses trying to lead his people to the promised land. GODDAMN ME for worshiping false idols in the form of bad character 'shipping and enjoying such terrible sins! I see now, you were only trying to help me. Alas and Alack but I believe I am nonredeemable. Might as well go ahead and consider me a pillar of salt outside the outskirts of the burning Gomorrah, friend, there is no help for me.
Just ignore him completely. I don't know if you have had previous arguments with him, but he is well known from other sites for ragging at the most meaningless details and drilling into you till you yield. A Lost cause of a bitter old man (literally speaking).
Incredible piece of art by the way! Even tho I am not so much into gay shipping, this looks both incredible and heartwarming.
